Pritzker Prize for Architecture Is Awarded to Alejandro Aravena of Chile

Mr. Aravena, who has focused on low-cost social housing and reconstructing after natural disasters, received the honor as Chile emerges as a locus of noteworthy architecture. Alejandro Aravena, winner of the Pritzker Award for Architecture, has developed a participatory process for the design of housing called “half of a good house” in which they allow residents “to complete the work themselves later and play an active role in raising their own standard of living.” Over time, this is an innovation strategy that we are going to see more of: creating a culture of co-creation of the experiences people want to achieve. In order to develop this cultural shift, we need to focus on understanding what people want.
